Role as Head of Design Technology:

As Head of Design Technology, you will lead and manage a motivated team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality lessons and innovative projects. You will play a key role in shaping the curriculum, inspiring students to explore design, engineering, and creative technologies. You’ll oversee the department's development and drive student achievement while fostering a passion for design and problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Leading and managing the Design Technology department, including curriculum development and resource management
  • Planning and delivering engaging lessons across KS3-KS5, including areas such as product design, textiles, and resistant materials
  • Supporting students in developing both creative and technical skills, from practical making to theoretical understanding
  • Ensuring the department's high performance and standards, both academically and in extracurricular activities
  • Contributing to the wider school community through involvement in extracurricular events such as design exhibitions and clubs
  • Leading departmental meetings, managing staff, and providing mentorship and support for teaching colleagues
  • Driving continuous improvement through data analysis and departmental reviews

  • A qualified Design Technology Teacher with QTS (or currently in teacher training as an ECT)
  • Strong academic background in Design Technology or related subjects
  • Proven leadership experience (or potential to take on a leadership role)

  • Excellent classroom management skills and high expectations for student progress
  • A commitment to the development of the department and extracurricular activities
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
