Your Role as a SpLD Teaching Assistant

As a SpLD Teaching Assistant, you’ll be focused on supporting pupils with speech and language challenges – working under the guidance of the school’s SENCO and, where applicable, external therapists. You’ll be making a direct impact on pupil confidence, interaction, and learning across the curriculum.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Delivering tailored support to pupils with speech and language development needs
  • Working one-to-one and in small groups to strengthen communication and vocabulary
  • Collaborating with teachers to adapt classroom resources and strategies
  • Encouraging social interaction, listening, and expressive language skills
  • Recording observations and contributing to pupil progress reports
