Role as an SEMH Teaching Assistant
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will be based within the school’s nurture room, supporting a small group of seven children. These pupils benefit from personalised interventions that help develop their emotional regulation, behaviour, and social confidence. You’ll work closely with SEN and pastoral teams to help pupils re-engage positively with school life.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Working closely with pupils with SEMH needs on both a 1:1 and small group basis
- Supporting emotional and behavioural development through structured interventions
- Collaborating with the SENCO and external professionals to implement support strategies
- Building trusting, therapeutic relationships with pupils as an SEMH Teaching Assistant
- Encouraging engagement in learning and supporting transitions into mainstream classrooms
- Monitoring and reporting progress – a vital part of the SEMH Teaching Assistant role

- A graduate in psychology or a related field with a passion for mental health support
- Someone with the drive and resilience to work as an effective SEMH Teaching Assistant
- Experience with children is welcomed but not essential – enthusiasm and commitment are key
