Your Role as a Speech and Language Teaching Assistant
As a Speech and Language Teaching Assistant, you’ll work closely with pupils who have communication and language difficulties, supporting them both in class and through tailored intervention. This role will give you a unique insight into speech development, language acquisition, and therapeutic support – a perfect foundation for future clinical or educational training.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Supporting children with speech, language, and communication needs in KS1 and KS2
- Delivering small-group and one-to-one interventions as directed by the SENCO or external therapists
Helping children develop vocabulary, expressive language, and social interaction skills - Assisting teachers with adapting resources and strategies to improve communication access
- Observing progress and maintaining records to support therapy plans and reviews
